The efficiency of a system is limited by the purity of its medium. Friction isn't always mechanical; sometimes, it's the sediment in the flow.
Even the most powerful pump will fail if the water is full of scale, rust, or biological growth. A strainer is a simple, static mechanical filter that catches sediment before it reaches the expensive, moving parts. It ensures that the stream remains clear so the heat transfer remains high.
Leaders often focus on flow rate (Speed/KPIs) but ignore water quality (Culture/Data Integrity). We try to solve sluggish performance by increasing the pump speed by working harder rather than cleaning the strainer.
Running a dirty system causes erosion. In pipes, sediment thins the metal from the inside out; in organizations, cultural sediment such as: unresolved conflicts, bad data, vague goals, thins out your top talent until the system bursts under pressure.
